Trump’s Reckless Defiance Matched by McConnell’s Reckless Partisanship

We begin with the impending move of the articles of impeachment to the senate and the apparent flaw in the thinking on the part of Democrats that at least some Republican senators would recognize the need to impeach Trump based on the indisputable evidence presented so far. Lawrence Douglas, a Professor of Law, Jurisprudence and Social Thought at Amherst College who is a contributing opinion writer at The Guardian where he has an article “Mitch McConnell is cynically undermining any notion of an honest impeachment trial”, joins us. We  discuss how Trump’s reckless defiance is matched by McConnell’s reckless partisanship and shamelessness and assess whether McConnell has gutted the impeachment trial before it has even begun. Unless the discussions Senator Collins is having with a few of her colleagues reveal a sudden conversion to constitutional principles and the elevation of country over party, it looks like next week we are heading for a cynical inversion of the Stalinist show trial in which the guilt of the accused has already been determined. But in the McConnell show trial, it will be the innocence of the accused that is predetermined with no necessity for witnesses to be called or documents reviewed in what is shaping up to be a mockery of the senators’ oath to render “impartial justice”.

Mansour Farhang, a Professor Emeritus of International Relations at Bennington College who resigned his post as revolutionary Iran’s first ambassador to the U.N. over Khomeini’s refusal to release the U.S. hostages, joins us to discuss the total alienation the majority of Iranians feel towards the regime and the anger at its lies in what is being described as a “funeral for public trust”.

Then finally we  speak with Dr. Bandy Lee, a forensic psychiatrist on the faculty of Yale School of Medicine and the co-founder of Yale’s Violence and Health Study Group who was the lead organizer of the Duty to Warn conference out of which came the bestseller The Dangerous Case of Donald Trump: 37 Psychiatrists and Mental Health Experts Assess a President. She joins us to discuss how the lawyer for the sex-trafficking pedophile Epstein and Trump defender Alan Dershowitz has filed complaints against her with the deans of Yale’s Law School and School of Medicine for suggesting there is a shared psychosis between Trump and his followers and defenders.
