California Will Ban Gasoline Cars Aiming to be 100% All-Electric by 2035

We begin with the historic vote today by the California Air Resources Board to approve new rules that would phase out gasoline cars, banning the sale of all of them by 2035 by which time there will be 100% of all electric cars on the road while allowing 20% of zero-emissions cars sold to be plug-in hybrids. Joining us is to assess whether car manufacturers and clean electricity suppliers can meet the challenge is David Victor, a professor and the Center for Global Transformation Endowed Chair in Innovation and Public Policy at the University of California San Diego where he also Co-directs of the Deep Decarbonization Initiative, which focuses on real world strategies for bringing the world to nearly zero emissions of warming gasses. He was a convening lead author for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and is the author of a number of books including Global Warming Gridlock Creating More Effective Strategies for Protecting the Planet and his latest book, just out, is Fixing the Climate.

 

An Update Six Months Into a War Russia is Waging Against An Embattled Ukraine

Then, following yesterday’s observance of independence day in Ukraine which also marked the sixth month of Russia’s war against that embattled country, we speak with Taras Kuzio, a Professor in the Department of Political Science, National University of Kyiv and the author and editor of 21 books, including Putin’s War Against Ukraine, Revolution, Nationalismand Crime and, most recently, Russian Nationalism and the Russian-Ukrainian War. We also discuss dissent inside Russia from anti-fascist partisans and within the security services that may explain the recent assassination of the daughter of a nationalist leader.

 

With The Revival of the Iran Nuclear Deal Near, Could MBS Drive up the Price of Oil to Hurt Biden in November?

Then finally we examine the likelihood that the revival of the Iran nuclear deal, the JCPOA, is very near and that its renewal could prompt the pro-Trump Saudi leader MBS to drive up the price of oil ahead of the November elections in retaliation to hurt Biden in spite of the recent fist-bump the two leaders shared.
